Student Supports Manager Chavara Turner was interviewed by the Chicago Tribune’s Hannah Leone for her work supporting students during remote learning. Ms. Turner helps students at Clay Elementary stay on the path to graduation by providing everything from social and emotional support to navigating technology for e-learning.
During the first week of the fall semester, Ms. Turner stopped by the school building to give students cosmetics (donated by Ulta Beauty) and school supplies (donated by Cradles to Crayons Chicago) so that they could start the school year strong.
For one eighth grader, Ms. Turner helped him get connected with a Chromebook and access WiFi so he could his download assignments. “He just needed someone to remind him to be accountable for himself, remind him this was an opportunity for him to shine,” she said.
