John Dempsey of WLS interviews Jane Mentzinger, CEO of Communities In Schools (CIS) of Chicago, about our organization’s extended student support during the summer months. CIS of Chicago is focused on providing ongoing support to students, Jane said, particularly given the uncertainty and challenges many of our students are facing in the midst of a pandemic, a health crisis, and an economic crisis.
“We’re typically working in schools, but we did a pivot like many other organizations had to do to work with our young people remotely. So we reached out to them via phone, via Google platforms, and on the Internet to try and continue to build those relationships that are so critical to student success,” Jane said. “We’re excited because for the first time, we’re going to be able to do this in the summer.”
