Crain’s Commentary: How to Help Students Find Their Way Back to Regular School Attendance

When a child misses more than 10 percent of the school year they are not only missing out on critical lessons in math and reading. They are also missing out on experiences that helps them develop socially and emotionally, experiences that help propel them on the path to graduation.

According to the latest data, 2 out of 5 Chicago Public Schools students missed 18 or more days in school during the 2022-23 academic year.
