“She has changed leaps and bounds.” WBEZ’s Sarah Karp profiles one of CIS of Chicago’s 2019 Tenacity Award winners, Roselyn, a student at Saucedo Elementary. Roselyn struggled at home and at school, but at the urging of the principal, she started meeting regularly with Juanita Herrera, a CIS of Chicago Student Supports Manager based at Saucedo.
Roselyn set goals to improve her communication skills, attendance, academics, and her relationship with her mother. She made huge progress, and at the end of her eighth-grade year, Roselyn received the Tenacity Award for her perseverance.
